English Setter / Mixed (long coat) Dog

Janie the Dog needs a home

Janie was rescued from a home with 10 other dogs and an owner who was overwhelmed. The owner started with a few dogs, but did not spay and neuter his pets, so a few turned into many. In addition to the 10 adult dogs, Janie had a recent litter of puppies who were all given away. Worthy Dog has rescued 2 other dogs from this home, and are working with the owner to get the rest of them altered and rehomed. He’s receptive and has learned from this experience. With so many dogs, they were mostly kept outside with limited access to the basement so they could come in out of the elements, but have never been integrated into their home.

Janie is still a young pup with her whole life ahead of her, and is now living in a proper foster home with two dedicated foster parents to help her transition, and two older dogs to show her the way. Janie is very calm in the house, and her favorite spot is on the couch sitting with her foster mom. She really enjoys other dogs and wants to play, but her two senior buddies are not that interested. They will growl at her when she pushes their boundaries, and she just backs away with no aggression or reaction at all. She’s a submissive pup who knows how to share, and takes treats gently when offered. She’s learning the joy of toys, doing great with potty training, and has been a very respectful guest in her foster home.

Foster Update - 2/4/18

Janie's foster parents had their younger granddog come over for a playdate since their pups are no longer in that mode. Janie enjoyed herself and both dogs played really well together. Janie is very friendly meeting new dogs, and also understands when the other dogs give her the “ no play” growl and she just backs off.  She's also very engaging and friendly with new people when they visit the house, she does get excited and wants to jump up, and her foster family is working on her greeting skills. She is accepting of both men and women, and just loves attention. If you sit down, she wants to be in your lap or right next to you.  Janie will bark if she hears something unusual outside, but stops when the noise stops, or after she investigates the source. She's still new to her foster home, so it may be part of her settling in process.

FOSTER UPDATE - 2/7/18

Janie met the grandkids today and did well with both, very gentle, and respectful. She also met some of the extended family dogs and did well with all. Janie is going to make a wonderful companion for someone looking for an affectionate dog.

More to come about Janie as she settles in. She will be coming to N. VA on 2/17
